"Two children, Homer and Ada escape enslavement on a southern plantation. Sadly, they have to leave their mother and friends behind. They soon find themselves deep in a swamp where they discover the clandestine runaway community of Freewater. Homer has spent a lifetime trying to be invisible and unseen but he meets other children in Freewater and he learns from them how to have fun and make a little trouble, but more importantly, he learns that he matters, that he can make a difference. Armed with that crucial information he hatches the riskiest of plans to rescue others from enslavement. He takes the reader along for quite a thrilling adventure!"
