This month's movies are: "A Ghost Story" (2017) and "The Wicker Man" (1973). The former is available on DVD through Calvert Library, and the latter through Kanopy. Watch either movie before the Hybrid event and join us for a lively discussion on Monday night. Please register to receive an emailed link to the Zoom event an hour before it begins.
For our special spooky Halloween-themed Movie Musings this month doing an exciting double-feature of alternative takes on the horror genre!
First up is a May Day classic, 1973's "The Wicker Man," starring Edward Woodward as the detective Sergeant Neil Howie. Taking place almost entirely on a remote Scottish island, Howie is searching for a missing girl, and he suspects murder! Nobody is giving him a straight answer about anything, least of all the island's leader, Lord Summerisle, played by Christopher Lee. A mystery that also questions who we are and how we create our own morals, "The Wicker Man" is both thrilling and humbling.
If that's not your speed, don't worry! The other movie we'll be discussing this month is "A Ghost Story," the 2017 indie hit! Starring Casey Affleck as the mysteriously named "C," the film follows the existence of a ghost who haunts a house long after the people he loved have left. Surreal, thought provoking, and ultimately moving, "A Ghost Story" offers a new perspective on what the after life could look like.
