Join fellow educators to learn about local resources that apply MSDE teaching standards for teaching the history of Black, Indigenous and other People of Color across Southern Maryland.
The Institute is brought to you by the Southern Maryland Equity in History Coalition, which is working to elevate the history of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color across the region. Primary access to the history is provided through a searchable website – www.equityinhistory.org. You need to bring your laptop to the Institute.
A survey of the teachers after the Institute indicated the following:
Teachers really appreciated the Institute. Their understanding of Southern Maryland History was greatly increased by the content presented at the Institute. They learned a great deal about accessing resources to teach about the history African Americans, Indigenous, and other people of color. Their understanding of the historical and cultural landscape of Southern Maryland grew considerably. As a result of the Institute, they felt well equipped to use the website and its extensive resources.
