Harlem Rennaissance Classic written in 1937 that is still influencing readers. It tells the story of Janie from voiceless teenager to a complex, self-posessed woman. Using the colloquial language of Black Southerners, Hurston draws vivid characters and explores gender roles, race and relationships.
