This month features two excellent features that question the morals and laws of the United States!

First up is 1967's "In the Heat of the Night," directed by Norman Jewison and staring Hollywood legend Sidney Poitier. From HOOPLA: "While traveling in the Deep South, Virgil Tibbs (Sidney Poitier), a black Philadelphian homicide detective, becomes unwittingly embroiled in the murder investigation of a prominent businessman. Finding the killer, however, proves difficult when his efforts are constantly thwarted by the bigoted town sheriff (Rod Steiger). But neither man can solve this case alone. Putting aside their differences and prejudices, they join forces in a desperate race against time to discover the shocking truth."

Watch it here: https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/15466901

Next up is 2019's "Dark Waters" directed by Todd Haynes and staring Mark Ruffalo. Based on the true story of Robert Bilott's case against the chemical giant DuPont for their contamination of a local water supply in small town West Virginia, the film is a gripping legal drama that'll keep wondering what will happen next!

"They were just friends. Best friends. Allies. They spent entire summers sitting on Shiloh's porch steps, dreaming about the future. They promised each other that their friendship would never change. And yet, somehow, everything changed."
