"Fiddler on the Roof" 1971 & "Little Shop of Horrors" 1986

This month's movies are 1971's "Fiddler on the Roof" available through Kanopy and 1986's "Little Shop of Horrors" available on Blu-Ray and DVD through Calvert Library. This month we're celebrating a Musical May with two incredible features!

From director Norman Jewison comes this lavishly produced screen adaptation of the musical stage sensation that tells the life-affirming story of Tevye (Topol), a poor milkman whose love, pride and faith help him face oppression in turn of the century czarist Russia. Faced with mounting financial strain and growing anti-Semitism, Tevye strives—like a FIDDLER ON THE ROOF—to maintain a balance despite the precarious nature of his situation. If that's not your speed, or you'd like some more sing-a-long tunes, then we also have 1986's "Little Shop of Horrors!" Director Frank Oz, a "Muppeteer" known for his work as Ms. Piggy, Grover and Fozzie Bear, delivers an unforgettable movie full of incredible practical effects! The technical expertise is met with fantastic music written by Alan Menken, great songs from Broadway legend Howard Ashman, and unforgettable performances by Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene! With Four Tops singer Levi Stubbs voicing "Audrey II," you'll be screaming "It's suppertime" because you'll be EATING up this movie!
