Join us this month for a discussion of "There There" by Tommy Orange at Mamma Lucia's in Dunkirk. The whole state is being asked to read and discuss this book as the One Maryland One Book initiative.
A wondrous and shattering award-winning novel that follows twelve characters from Native communities: all traveling to the Big Oakland Powwow, all connected to one another in ways they may not yet realize. "There There" was one of The New York Times Book Review’s 10 Best Books of the Year, and won the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize and the Pen/Hemingway Award. There There was also longlisted for the National Book Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
Place a hold on There There.
One Maryland One Book is a program of Maryland Humanities. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Maryland State Library.
Welcome to our new pilot program for OMOB 2024, Read & Response! Share your thoughts with us, and the world!
While many Marylanders will join book discussions with their libraries, classroom, and book clubs, we cannot truly be "Maryland's biggest book club" without getting everyone's voices in the same space.
Using the platform StoryPrompt, OMOB readers can respond to a series of prompts related to There There throughout the fall. These responses will be collected and then added to our website, for all to see. The entire process takes just a few minutes and can be done through your web browser on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone — no app required.
