Calvert Library Prince Frederick

Combined Meeting Rooms 1, 2, and 3

We are excited to be able to give one FREE Chromebook to qualified households. These Chromebooks have been provided by a grant from the Maryland State Department of Housing and Community Development. Please see the qualification requirements before making a pick-up appointment.

Access to technology is one key to achieving economic freedom and accessing important educational opportunities. As part of our strategic plan, we are helping close the digital divide in Calvert County. Through a grant provided by Calvert County via the Maryland State Department of Housing and Community Development, we are proud to be joining other County agencies in a free Chromebook giveaway for eligible Calvert County households. Distribution events are held at branches and community sites throughout the county between February 10 and June 1. Households are limited to one device per address.

Those eligible should register for one of the timeslots at least 24 hours before an event. A limited number of walk-up appointments are available. If all timeslots get filled, you are encouraged to call the Digital Equity and Virtual Services (DEVS) department at 410-887-6124.

All qualifying documentation needs to be provided at pickup whether scheduled or walk-in. Each appointment is roughly 15 minutes but wait times may vary at each location. Digital Navigators are also available at each event to help customers log on to their new Chromebook and receive resources on tech basics to get started.

Important note: Customers must pick up their Chromebook at the location they reserved a timeslot for. The laptop is not held for missed appointments.

How to Qualify

Households must demonstrate their eligibility by providing the following:

  • Documentation from a government source of current household income below 200% of the federal poverty level (relative to household size).

OR

  • Proof of current enrollment or participation in approved government assistance programs, such as:
  • Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
  • Free and reduced-price school lunch program or school breakfast program, including at U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Eligibility Provision schools
  • Federal Pell Grant in the current award year

AND

  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of address. Examples include: Maryland voter's registration card; rental receipt, lease or deed; postmarked official mail (e.g., utility bill); vehicle registration; county tax bill with correct address; current pay stub.

If You Don’t Receive a Chromebook
We understand that demand may be higher than our supply of Chromebooks. If you don’t receive a laptop at one of our events, we encourage you to check out our lending program. Customers can borrow a Wi-Fi-enabled Chromebook, a mobile hotspot or both for a normal borrowing period of 21 days with a library card.
