Join local environmentalist Ryan St. Laurent as he discusses the vital importance of the oyster to the life and health of the Chesapeake Bay. Learn about the efforts to develop living shorelines using oyster reefs to protect the Bay coastline and how you can help.
Ryan St Laurent was born and raised in the Twin Beaches. After graduating from Northern High School, he spent a few years at CSM earning his Associates Degree and furthered his education at Clemson University. While at Clemson, Ryan spent one year in Engineering and received his BS in Environmental Science, concentrating on Economic Policy and Natural Resource Management. He brought his education back to Calvert County and now works at Calvert Soil Conservation District. His love of people and of the environment guided him in serving our local farmers by designing, implementing, and cost-sharing conservation practices on farms. In the last few years, he has focused most of his efforts on oyster reef restoration and their application in our coastal defense against storms, sea level rise, and much more. You can spot Ryan paddling on his standup paddle board up and down the coastline, searching for clear water and peaceful times.
