Discover the incredible migration of Monarch butterflies with Master Naturalist Lisa Bierer-Garrett. From tagging programs in Minnesota to Western migrations in California and the breathtaking overwintering sites in Mexico, Lisa shares her journey, stunning photos, and tips for helping monarchs thrive in your own yard.
Lisa Bierer-Garrett learned as a teen about a butterfly tagging program that found tagged monarchs in Minnesota flew to the mountains in Mexico. Eager to learn more, she found there was a Western local migration in California too. Lisa and her husband traveled to California to learn about the Western population that overwinters in the Tall Eucalyptus trees of the Pacific Grove CA.
The Garretts then had the opportunity in 2019 to travel to Mexico City and El Rosario Monarch Preserve. High at 10,000 feet in the Oyamel Fir forests they witnessed millions of monarchs up in the trees roosting.
Join Lisa as she shows the journey of discovery that lets us all learn more about these amazing migratory butterflies. She will also share tips on how we can help them in our yards and gardens on their travels.
