When the power is out and it’s hot, cold, or dark, will your household be ready to ride out the storm?
September is National Preparedness Month, a great time to check or start your emergency kit supplies. Calvert County Health Department’s public health emergency preparedness division will help residents be more prepared by distributing some essential emergency kit supplies including headlamps, weather radios, and portable phone chargers.
These will be available at county libraries:
September 12, 2026 Calvert Library Twin Beaches Branch and Calvert Library Fairview Branch; 9-11AM
September 19, 2026 Calvert Library Southern Branch and Calvert Library Prince Frederick Branch; 9-11AM
A limited number will be available and distributed while supplies last to Calvert County residents; one set per address.
An emergency kit is basically a dedicated supply of essential items your family can count on during weather and other emergencies. It can help provide peace of mind and self-reliance when the power is out, you can’t get out of your neighborhood, or the stores are empty.
Visit https://www.ready.gov/kit for a checklist of recommended items to include as you start your emergency kit.
