Are you interested in learning more about artificial intelligence and machine learning? Join us for a series of conversations and even some hands-on learning to become more knowledgeable about this field. This is an introductory course but you will have the opportunity to go in-depth if you so choose. This month we'll discuss "The Every" by Dave Eggers.
The Every, or at last a sense of order, or the final days of free will, or limitless choice is killing the world by Dave Eggers can be placed on hold here.
This event is in-person at Calvert Library Prince Frederick but online attendance can be accommodated. LinkedIn group is also available.
Machine learning is the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed. In the past decade, machine learning has given us self-driving cars, practical speech recognition, effective web search, and a vastly improved understanding of the human genome. Machine learning is so pervasive today that you probably use it dozens of times a day without knowing it. Many researchers also think it is the best way to make progress towards human-level AI. In this course, you will learn about the ethics and concerns of creating AI/ML applications for various industries, how AI/ML will affect our work, lives, and overall humanity. We will also explore existing projects, training AI/ML systems, and using various ML frameworks (TensorFlow, Juptyr, SciKit-Learn, Python). For some of the exploration work, basic knowledge of algebra, programming logic, and the use of a free tier AWS cloud account would help you to engage more deeply with the content but it's OK to just listen in. If you want to dig deep but need to do a little catching up first, log in to the library's LinkedIn Learning classes to brush up on any of these skills. Some recommended classes:
Programming Foundations: Fundamentals (2 hrs)
Programming Foundations: Fuzzy Logic (41 min)
Introduction to AWS for Non-Engineers: 1 Cloud Concepts (1 hr)
