Life Journey Writing

Come out to learn the empowerment/freedom tools of writing. Through sharing, writing, critiquing, and examining the classics in multimedia, we'll energize your passion, voice, vibe, and validation, and have some fun! If you've already been writing? Bring it! In partnership with Arts Council of Calvert County and Life Journeys Writers Guild.

Do you have stories you need to document for your grandchildren?  Are you ready to educate others about your lived experience?  Will writing help you process a life change or second chance?

Writing can be life changing.  Yvonne J. Medley, facilitator, has created Sexual Assault Awareness and effective tools for relationship building; has tackled the issues of Incarceration in America (especially for females), racism, intolerance, social stigmas, and more.

• Former writer for The Washington Times, The Washington Post, People, Gospel Today, United Methodist Connection, and many other publications. Currently writing for The Urban Sentinel.
• Recipient of a Governor’s Citation from Maryland as well as numerous citations and recognition from the Charles County, MD House and Senate Delegation, and Charles County Commissioners, and U.S. Congressional Representatives for Charles County.
• Medley’s novels, titled, God in Wingtip Shoes and Jubi Stone: Saved by the Vine, were traditionally published.
• Medley and co-writer, Karen W. Bartelt, are currently promoting a screenplay based on Medley’s short story about her colorful formative years in Harlem, riding shotgun with her dad in his taxi—and running the numbers. Titled The Number Hole, it’s Paper Moon meets Harlem Nights and Do the Right Thing.
• Her novella, The Prison Plumb Line was adapted for the stage, and optioned. The Prison Plumb Line, a Lyrical Drama! was performed in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and behind bars.
• Founder of the Life Journeys Writers Club, Inc./DBA is Life Journeys Writers Guild (2007), a charitable nonprofit organization, partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Maryland Humanities, Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), Literary Arts Emergency Fund, supported by the Mellon Foundation, and others.
• Established and involved in several critically acclaimed writers’ programs and showcases such as Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt free Library’s Writers Live Series (Central Branch), Maryland Humanities One Maryland One Book and literary prison programs, conducting writing workshops.
• Creator of Literary Therapy and a New York Writers Lab screenplay finalist and Big Apple Film Festival Quarterfinalist—for The Number Hole.
• Medley, who is also a ghostwriter, editor and writer’s coach, moving writers to authorship
• Received recognition from President Obama’s 2012 White House, the MLK Drum Major for Service award.
