Kathy MacMillan (she/her) is an American Sign Language interpreter, instructor, consultant, writer and signing storyteller. She holds National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Kathy is the author of the Little Hands Signing board book series (Familius Press) and Little Hands and Big Hands: Children and Adults Signing Together (Hands Up Press), as well as many other books for children, teens, and adults. She has published many resource books for educators and librarians: A Box Full of Tales: Easy Ways to Share Library Resources through Story Boxes (ALA Editions, 2008), and Try Your Hand at This!: Easy Ways to Incorporate Sign Language into Your Programs (Scarecrow Press, 2006), as well as the coauthor (with Christine Kirker) of five books in the Storytime Magic storytime resource series from ALA Editions. She served as the Library/Media Specialist at the Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia Campus from 2001 to 2005. Before that she served as a Children?s Services Supervisor at the Carroll County (MD) Public Library, where she presented hundreds of storytime programs for all ages. Since founding Stories By Hand, Kathy has presented American Sign Language programs for thousands of children and parents in public libraries throughout the Midatlantic. She also serves on the board of Deaf Camps, Inc. Kathy has published numerous books and articles on topics relating to American Sign Language. She holds a Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of English from the Catholic University of America, and a Certificate of American Sign Language Interpreting from the Community College of Baltimore County. She lives in Baltimore, MD.
