Pat Morrison was born in Washington DC and currently lives in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. She received her BFA in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University and has also studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design and Montgomery College of Maryland.
For 20 years, Morrison worked as a freelance illustrator for a variety of magazines, newspapers and associations. She has taught art for District of Columbia Public Schools and Charles County Public Schools.
Morrison’s work is generally nature-themed. This current show focuses on images seen under the microscope such as brain neurons, bone cells and mitochondria. Inspiration for this work came from an antique bone chart hanging in her living room, probably once used as a teaching tool in a medical class. Morrison works in a printmaking medium called linocut. She prefers this medium because it lends itself to many unique textural effects depending on how the ink, paper, and printing plate react to one another. There is always an exciting element of surprise when the paper is pulled away from the printing plate and the image is revealed.
Calvert Library invites you to enjoy exhibits of local art in each of our locations all month. Pat Morrison's current show will be featured from November thru January.
