HSQRAB- A Celebration of Queer Stories in SOMD (PF)
Wednesday, June 17
5:30pm - 7:30pm
Calvert Library Prince Frederick
Combined Meeting Rooms 1, 2, and 3Learn how one oral history project collects and preserves Queer history in Southern Maryland.
Calvert Library is pleased to welcome back Ben Egerman(he/him) from the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Ben will talk about LGBTQ+ history here in Maryland, found through primary source material. We are also excited to introduce Lily Crunkleton (she/her), an oral historian, preserving today's queer stories, through HSQRAB—The History of Southern Maryland Queer Recordings Archive Base.
Learn about this growing oral history project as she shares how conversations with community members are being recorded, archived, and brought into the historical record. Learn about generations of Maryland's stories already collected, what they reveal about life in Southern Maryland, and how you can be part of documenting history as it happens. This program celebrates each LGBTQ+ person's unique story and how those stories strengthen our collective memory.
This two-hour presentation will include presentations from both speakers, as well as an opportunity for LGBTQ+ audience members and allies to meet and share their own stories in community with one another.
Ben and Lily speak throughout Maryland on LGBTQ+ history and were recently featured in The Baltimore Banner.
