Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - VITA (PF)

Group Study Room, Study Room 2VITA provides free federal and state tax preparation services for households whose total household income is $57,000 or less. Tax services are provided by IRS-certified tax preparers. Tax service is for Charles, Prince George's, St Mary's and Calvert County residents. Appointments open 30 days before dates.
We will only be completing Federal and Maryland State tax returns (No DC or other state returns). Prior tax returns from the last four years can be completed, but a separate appointment must be made for each tax year that’s needed.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: Taxpayers are required to provide the following items to be successfully completed:
- Photo Identification for tax filers
- Social Security Card and/or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) cards for everyone on the return
- W-2, 1099 and any other income forms (that total $57,000 or less)
- Letter 6419 Child Tax Credit Payments (if you received payments in 2021)
- Notice 1444-C Your Economic Impact Payment (Third payment received in 2021, normally $1400 per person)
- Documentation for deductions and tax credits
- Form 1098-T Tuition Statement (Will receive if attending college) & copy of student account statement)
- Proof of bank account, routing and account numbers for direct deposit (if applicable, and account must have the name of at least one of the tax filers)
- A copy of 2019 and 2020 federal and state returns (if applicable)
We cannot do tax returns that include information regarding:
- Farm income
- Rental real estate
- Excessive amounts of interest and dividends from investment accounts
APPOINTMENTS:
Persons must have a scheduled appointment to have their taxes completed at the assigned tax sites. There are no walk-ins. If persons will be more than 15 minutes late to their appointments, then they must reschedule due to limited appointments. In addition, if persons fail to show up for their scheduled appointments twice, then they will not be able to schedule an appointment this tax season.
COVID SAFETY MEASURES:
You are asked not to attend in-person and reschedule your appointment for any of the following reasons:
- If you are not feeling well or have symptoms of COVID-19;
- If you or someone in your household has tested positive within the last 10 days; or,
- If you are required to quarantine due to potential exposure of COVID-19.
